The Music That Inspires Me

The Music That Inspires Me:
Some time ago, I was asked to list the records that have a profound effect on me. I promised to post these on my blog. It is a slow process, writing when I find the time.
Anyone who knows me knows that I hold the Beatles in the highest regard, so I’ll post on them at various points. Also obvious are folks like Sam Phillips, Belle and Sebastian, Bob Dylan, Elvis (Presley and Costello). I’ll pepper in entries on them too.

Chris Isaak at the Egg

I went to see the great Chris Isaak at the Egg in Albany. I won tickets courtesy of WEXT . Man, it was a great show. Chris sang great, his band is killer and the sartorial elegance of Chris's stage gear had to be seen to be believed! After the show I got pics of myself and my brother outside the tour bus. Thank you Chris and the boys for a great time.

Sam Phillips concert review Metroland 2008

This SamScan is a review from Metroland  of the show I attended in 2008 in my home city, Albany NY. I remember at the time that I rallied to get Sam to appear in Albany, and was excited when it was confirmed. I invited all my friends to come see the show, and was disappointed when most of them were not able to attend. The venue is the Linda , a former bank building turned into a performance space by WAMC public radio.

My brother came with me, because he wanted to see what the fuss was about. Needless to say, I thought it was a great show, the review pretty much nailed it. I think my brother liked it too.

Afterwards I talked to Sam, and she was her usual gracious self. Jay and Ted were nice, and I had a good talk with Eric about recording techniques.

I hope that Sam, Eric et al had a good experience in Albany, but if she tours again, I would understand if it is not on any future itinerary.

blog blog blog

I’ve been asked to write about records that have stayed with me, have affected my life. I can’t  simply make a list, so I decided to start a blog. Intially I’ll use this blog as a means to complete this list. After that I’ll use the blog to publish observations about culture, movies music etc.

For no reason at all, here is a picture of Juliette Binoche. Just so you have something pleasing to look at...
